At the Boys & Girls Club of Langlade County, we recently hired new art director, Shane Lenzner. With this timely addition, the Club has been able to offer new, dynamic art programs for members that cover a wide variety of artistic disciplines. Our vision for arts is to enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
Studies have shown that fewer than half of all public schools offer visual arts programs. Additionally, children from low-income families are 50 percent less likely than youth from affluent families to participate in arts programs outside of school. Boys & Girls Clubs are offering quality, affordable arts programming during the out-of-school time.
At our site, members who come to our arts programs are challenged to think abstractly and encouraged to discover creative ways of communication. Members are learning to use visual mediums to tell stories, express emotions and ideas, and to work from proficiencey to mastery. Whether it is Drawing or Coloring, Arts n Crafts or Comic Book Creations, members at our Club are always excited to get involved with the afternoon’s art programs.
